Best Practices for Indie Writers…
This Came Up In a Question…
What is the best practice to do (blank)? I responded that there are no right ways, just your way, but hundreds of wrong ways that can get you going in the wrong direction.
My answer, as you might expect, was not very satisfying. What was that writer’s way, how would they even know, and how would they identify a wrong way?
Well, that got Kris and I talking on that topic and how to even begin to think about all the aspects of best (and worst) practices.
We decided that for us, this indie publishing breaks clearly down into four areas to be successful.
- Writing. From craft to getting to the computer with life rolls and writer’s block.
- Publishing. Getting your finished work out wide for readers to buy. So many elements to that.
- Sales. This modern indie world in 2026 is so different from the old ways, it is hard to even understand sales at times.
- Business. At first this seems unimportant, but then it becomes major for successful writers, from copyright to a company name to trademarks and licenses.
Each area has a bunch of best practices, practices that fit each writer and keep each writer moving forward in their own way.
And each area has a bunch of worst practices. Things that can really slow down a writer, or actually stop possible success.
Four areas just fit naturally into the seminar format, and the amount of information was far, far more than enough to fit the four weeks of videos every day in each topic. And we’ll have four webinars along the way for questions, and I have a hunch there will be a ton because there is no one right way, just each writer’s way.
Kristine Kathryn Rusch and I will do the information, I will present it, then Chris York and I will do the webinar each week. Three experienced long-term writers who have made it through the best and the worst practices. Webinar will be Wednesday at 4pm Pacific and will be recorded.
So officially announcing right now…
INDIE WRITING AND PUBLISHING
BEST (and Worst) PRACTICES SEMINAR
Four Weeks Long. At least 5 videos per day, five days a week.
Starts on March 2nd.
No assignments. Watch at your own pace. 4 Webinars for Questions and Discussion.
Week #1… Writing, including getting to the chair, dealing with life rolls, and being prolific. Best practices and some really bad ones talked about as well that can hurt your writing.
Week #2… Publishing. Getting your work out in a ton of different ways. So many good ways, so many wrong ways.
Week #3… Sales. How to get readers to buy your work in this modern 2026 world. Again, so many great ways available to indie writers now, but so many wrong roads.
Week #4… Business and wrapping up the first three elements into a working indie publishing career.
FEE… $400 early bird fee until until Monday, February 23rd. Limited to only 25 writers to keep the discussion in the webinar more active.
BONUS… If you sign up for the early bird price, you will also get a brand new three week class we will be starting as soon as the Sales class finishes next week. It is called WITING IN DIFFICULT TIMES and is a $150 price, but will be included to all early birds in this class (because it will be mostly over by the time this seminar starts in full. Another reason to sign up early.)
As with all the seminars we have done, this will not be included in any of the Lifetime Subscriptions and or workshop credit.
To sign up, just send the $400 fee to PayPal to the email dean@wmgpublishingstore.com and I will tell you I got it and get you on the list.
This one should really be fun, and maybe save you years going down a wrong road.
By the way, only a few hours left to get even more writing and publishing knowledge…
