A BUNCH OF STUFF…
Trying Something Old/New
Tomorrow, if the schedule allows, I am headed with a friend to hit a few golf balls. Now understand, way back in time I used to be a PGA professional and I could play pretty well for the time. But for the last number of years, I have not hit a golf ball and am not sure if I can.
Why? Lost a lot of my vision two years back. Last year I smashed up my shoulder and it is now titanium. Plus with the injury I gained about twenty pounds around my middle that I have not been able to shed yet. Plus I am 74. So an old, half-blind, injured, overweight, ex-golf-professional is going to try to hit a few balls.
It could be really funny and it will be filmed, so I will put it up here for kicks and giggles, one way or another.
So many people in my position would not push this or even try. I think my attitude about writing with a willingness to try anything and everything comes into this. Failure is an option and a likely outcome. But success will be just making contact, getting a shot in the air, and not going back to the doctor afterwards. And that will feel great if it happens.
Report tomorrow on this stupidity…
DECEMBER REGULAR WORKSHOPS STARTING
They are…
- Writing into the Dark
- Teams in Fiction
- Depth in Writing
- Advanced Depth
- Killing the Critical Voice
And for one month only
- Applied Depth
Applied Depth is a classic workshop that for one month you can get direct assignments from me as a regular workshop. They are all starting right now…
THE KRIS AND DEAN SHOW DOES DIE HARD…
It is on for certain. Thank you to those of you who took a chance and signed up. All the videos, the entire three hours or more, will be on Teachable on the 14th. Kris and I will spend some time going over Die Hard again and making notes, then will film it all and get it up on Teachable next Thursday. We will have it broken down into pieces so you can go over it at your own pace. No assignments or anything like that. Just a ton of learning.
Trust me, it will be an eye-opener and jump your writing forward more than you can imagine.
ANOTHER CAT FROM THE PAST…
This is me and my heart kitty, Walter, in my writing office in Lincoln City.
Clearly Walter had been dropped off by some sick human and showed up on our doorstep hungry and willing to exchange pets for food. Pure show cat. Red Point Birman. Clearly trained.
Once we got him checked out and looked for an owner just in case, he never left my side for years and years. When he died I went in search of another Red Point Birman and that’s how I found Cheeps in a hoarding situation in California and rescued him.
I miss Cheeps. And I really miss Walter.

It’s nice to see Walter! I remember him from your old videos. As for the golf… you know, you don’t have to be good. As long as you don’t pose a hazard to self or others (grin,) this could be a fun way to get more steps in and hang out with friends. Your technique will have to adapt.
That’s normal.
In karate, I am changing all my right kicks into knee kicks (can’t kick with my reconstructed ankle, and my left kicks into misdirections or throws (can’t stand on my reconstructed ankle yet, and it may never be an option.) Bot I get to rework the katas and make them my own, and I get to geek out about what’s feasible or effective with friends.
Same goal: have fun, get some movement, see people!

I love how tough you are!
My FIL bike across the country at 68 for his 50th HS reunion… after heart surgery… and everyone said he was nuts.
My dad is 84 and kayaks occasionally and only quit going up on roofs (in loafers **roll of eyes**) to supervise dollar installations a couple years ago.
I can feel the ache and pains starting to accumulate at 51… so I need all this amazing inspiration! Ire- started fencing a couple years back (did it as a teen… and before Kris asks, the 2nd piece of equipment my mom got me was my own mask!)
I wish I had pics of all the cats I’ve loved. Most were my parents’, technically… DH is not a huge cat person. (And with 6 kids, we’ve had enough animals in the house… I do have pics of them… and we’ve gone through passed where someone pretended to be a cat… did that count LOL)
Model government is over and Lego team is almost done… might be able to get back to focusing on writing… I’m finishing out the year with 12 fantasy novels (woohoo!), and close to 2500 word daily average! (Was hoping for 2500, but… life…) still hoping to get 1 nonfiction book out…
