Productivity…

Every Writer I  Know Thinks They Don’t Write Enough…

Does not matter as to the level of the writer or the years in the business. It is uniform. No writer is as productive as they think they should be, or want to be. I am no exception to that.

First off, don’t get the two words Productive and Prolific confused. They are not the same thing.

Prolific is a person’s opinion of another writer, based most often on some unknown and unknowable amount of books published.

I have seen writers who write one book a year for ten years called prolific.

Productive is a relative description of a person’s work output.

If a person has a sixty-hour-per-week corporate job and a family, productive often means managing a few hours of writing here and there in a week and getting published some short fiction and maybe a novel every-so-often.

A person who says they want to be a full-time writer and has no job or family doing the same amount of work would not be called productive.

So the term is very relative to the writer’s situation and desires.

So as we fire into this coming new year, every writer I know hopes to be more productive, but most writers I know will hope and yet make no movement to change anything to be more productive. Thus, depending on the flow of life, they have basically the same production as the previous year and wonder why. So they start the “hope” thinking over again and again make no changes.

Frustration.

So below is the information on the FEAR AND PRODUCTIVITY SEMINAR we are doing in January. Limited to 25 writers, no assignments, four webinars and a ton of information.  A ton.

But first, let me illustrate a simple trick.

Example… Say you are doing about 240,000 words per year. That is about 3 novels a year at 80,000 each, but you also write short fiction so you get a bunch of short stories done and two novels.

At that pace you are averaging about 20,000 words per month, or about 670 words per day.

Most people can write 670 word emails regularly. 670 words is about 45 minutes a day of fiction writing on average. That will get you that 240,000 words.

But you want to do more. Step one: Look at your life and find where in 15 minute chunks you can find 7 hours total a week to write. Before you were managing five hours per week.

Then schedule that so you get those seven hours average per week. Not a lot extra.

But by the end of the year that not a lot extra will produce 350,000 words of fiction. Another entire novel and some short fiction extra.

And you will have increased productivity.

Of course, if it really was that simple, everyone would be doing it, but first you have to move your belief systems, get rid of fear, and a bunch of other things before simply adding in 2 extra hours a week will be possible.

It is possible to increase productivity but takes learning and focus and desire and help.

And that is why the January Seminar is called FEAR AND PRODUCTIVITY… Kris and I can help.

Here is the information…

FEAR AND PRODUCTIVITY SEMINAR

Preparation for the New Year

January Seminar

January 5th through January 30th

Kris and I have been looking forward to doing this for most of the year, but knew that January would be the perfect time. January everyone is excited about the new year and moving forward, making the new year better than the last. So we want to help.

And to do that, sometimes all it takes are a few small changes, a focus on a certain mindset, an understanding of what it takes to move past fear and be more productive. That’s what this seminar is all about.

It is about craft, publishing, mindset, work habits, belief systems, getting past fear, and so much more. Anything that is slowing you down or holding you back is a fair topic for you to ask about and us to help you with.

As with most seminars, this will be interactive in many ways, with questions being answered in videos each day and 4 weekly webinars.  The webinars will be recorded so that everyone can go back and watch them. They will be on Wednesdays at 4 pm West Coast time. The webinars will be January 14th, 21st, 28th and the last one will be after all videos are done on February 4th.
