Attitude is Everything!

Wow, Am I Having Fun…

When Steph went down the road, Kris and I decided we wanted to make the switch to doing everything ourselves. Now we had done that in the early days of indie publishing, but employees took over some things and we didn’t learn some new ways.

Now we are. And to be honest, we are both having a blast.

I call them learning curves and I made a list of the top ten areas I needed to learn. First was get my skills back in InDesign. Check. And so on.

Today Chris York and I worked our way through a pretty massive Excel spreadsheet. Now, she is an expert in Excel, I know enough to be dangerous, and we were working our way through one large project, mostly her telling me how I could do something and both of us figuring out what needed to be done. Damn that was fun.

I hear so many writers afraid of something they don’t know in publishing, and thus never do it. I am going at this one major learning curve a week and having a blast learning.

And even more surprising, I am learning that different tasks in indie publishing are just not that difficult.

And we are cleaning up so many things. This coming week my major task is Shopify. We have seven stores, we need maybe two or three. And all seven have been neglected. Going to be fixing that in the next week or so and also saving us a ton of money by shuttering some of the stores.

Interestingly enough, even neglected, four stores made money, two broke even, and one lost because it had never had the money part set up. Not kidding.

So my attitude is that learning is fun and wow am I having fun.
