Aces Win It All…

From an Ugly Start…

Aces were mostly counted out of even making the playoffs this year and then the Lynx came into town and blew the Aces off their own home floor by 53 points. Ugly does not begin to describe that.

And in the middle of this disaster, something really fun happened at halftime. There was a baby crawl race and halfway down the floor the baby said, “Hell with it.” and stood up and took her first steps in front of 14,000 cheering people.

The crowd, already beat up, finally had something to cheer for. Video attached. Watch the faces on the crowd as the baby did what she did.

Something happened with the Aces team that day and for the next 16 games of the season they did not lose a game. Second longest winning streak in WNBA history.

And they only lost two games in the first two rounds of the playoffs and then in the finals swept an amazingly great Phoenix team.

Nike did a wonderful commercial right after the game to the tune of “Welcome Back Kotter.”  The commercial opened up with an arial view over Vegas, then came back through an airline window as if looking at Vegas from a plane coming in for a landing. And  then panned back a little bit more and there on the first class seat was the championship trophy.

And under the song “Welcome back” the words appeared. “Back to Back… And then Back Again.”

We have had season tickest for four years, and three of those years they won the entire championship.

We already have our season tickets for next year, but until then I am really going to miss putting on my Ace’s gear and watching the games.  Damn, watching a dynasty team is sure fun.

And watching a baby take its first steps is also great fun.
